Audience of One

The Strong Suit had its first official photo shoot this past weekend and I could not be happier. I launched the Strong Suit not only as a creative outlet for myself but for the benefit of other creatives as well. We cover fashion news and current trends for menswear and women’s wear, while also participating in collaborations and features with different brands across the industry. This photo shoot came about as a courtesy of my colleague Jeffery Matthews. Jeffery founded Audience of One and wanted to try out a new camera so we decided to shoot together. Me being my indecisive self, I was unsure of what I would like the context of the shoot to be about and he suggested a Mother Nature look. So I chose my favorite flow white dress from Charlotte Russe and added floral accents to my hair and it all came together so beautifully! We will definitely be shooting together in the near future!

Jeffery when did you first become interested in photography?

Ever since I was younger, I've had an interest in photography but never acted upon my interest until recently. I never had my own camera so I saved up some money and made the jump into the photography world my junior year of college. It's been about 2 years since I've started and I don't see myself stopping anytime soon.

I know you recently got a new camera but what do you prefer to shoot with?

My first camera was a Nikon D3200, so I'm pretty comfortable with the Nikon setup. I shot with just about all the cameras in the Nikon lineup, and I love the autofocus and ease of use. Currently, I shoot with a Sony A7ii, and I like the color rendition it produces. After shifting from Nikon, there's a bit of a learning curve to learn the system, but I believe it will become a favorite of mine.

How do you get inspired for your photoshoots?

I enjoy looking at popular film photographers and browsing the Instagram explore page. There are thousands of talented amateur and professional photographers that have great concepts and portraits. There are an infinite amount of poses and setups that can improve your photos.

What celebrity or iconic figure would you love to photograph and why?

I think YesJulz is pretty dope. Her vibes, energy and style never goes unnoticed and I think a shoot with her would be cool. She does what she loves with her friends and seems to be having the time of her life with it.

What drew you to the art of photography?

Rather than landscapes and inanimate objects, I love capturing the emotion and vibes of the people I shoot with. A lot of people say they aren't' photogenic or they don't look good in front of a camera, but I like making people feel comfortable and good about themselves when they see their portraits. The conversations, relations and connections you make behind the scenes is something you cannot get from other forms of art.

Where do you see Audience of One in a few years?

At the core, Audience of One would still be focused on glorifying God but in a few years (maybe a decade), I see Audience of One as a leading consulting and marketing brand. Rather than focusing on just photography, Audience of One would expand into brand development, app design, and many other areas. I would like to build the company into a one-stop shop for establishing other companies’ brands, marketing and visual components. Currently, I am working on creating my second venture and making Christian based apparel. As for me in a few years, I will be finished with graduate school and working as a user experience researcher for a tech company. I want to gain the experience I need to lead my own company in the future.

What is the vision for Audience of One and how would you like it to impact others?

With all the jobs that I have, I make sure that I am impacting others lives in a positive way. From my personal training job to my future user experience research career, I focus on making people's lives better and raising their self-esteem. Along with that, as long as people can witness God's grace through my actions and possibly plant the seed of finding out whom God is, I feel as if I've fulfilled my purpose.
