I don’t know about you guys, but I miss the gym so much! Before quarantine, I developed a solid routine with my accountability group where I consistently attended workouts 2 to 3 times a week. It was the perfect way to sweat out toxins and stay active before my wedding. Once the gyms closed, it seemed like all of my hard work went down the drain.
The recent cleanse I did with the Hubs ignited my passion for working out again. I had to find a new routine that worked within social distancing restrictions. This caused me to get creative with my workout routine and find different ways to get moving! If you’re looking for gym alternatives, here are 4 ways you can stay active during quarantine.
Relax with Yoga
Yoga flows are one of my favorite ways to stay stretched and toned. In my city, they’re holding yoga classes in museums and parks where attendees can safely social distance. Check-in with your local studios to see if you can find a class near you. If not, nowadays fitness bloggers and yogis from all over have classes on Youtube that you can follow virtually. Grab your mat and create a routine that works for you!
Go for a Run
By default, quarantine keeps us in the house more than usual. Being inside more means that we’re outside less. As a result, we aren’t getting the nutrients we need from the sun, vitamin D. According to globenewswire.com, 75% of Americans are Vitamin D deficient. That’s why it’s so important to get outside and soak it up naturally. Going for a run is the perfect way to get outside and get some sun. Pick a route in your neighborhood or on a nice trail in your city and go explore!
Experiment with Fitness Apps
Aside from Youtube, fitness apps are the next best solution to working out during quarantine. One of my personal favorites the Fiton app! They fully believe that it’s your workout, your body and that you should own it! This app allows you to work out with friends and do fitness challenges together which I love. There are a ton of other new features from tracking your progress, to meal plans, and trainer tips. They recently unveiled a Facetime-like option where you can do a workout with your friends with video! This workout is completely social distance friendly, with a ton of workout options, it can’t get better than that.
Take a City Bike
Last fall I went to Chicago and we decided to ride bikes around the city! Well really we took them to pick up groceries from the store, but it was nice to explore the neighborhood that was close to our Airbnb. It’s true what they say, you’ll always remember how to ride a bike. Not only was that bike ride nostalgic. but it was such a fun way to explore our area. You may not be in Chicago but you can go downtown for a bike ride. Rent a city bike for an afternoon and explore your city from a different perspective.
Don’t settle into mental funk during these crazy times. Find a way to stay active that you find fun and exciting. I hope these tips will help you get your workout routine back despite quarantine!
