Modeling doesn’t come easy for everyone. Posing for photo shoots can be hard and even stressful when you’re paying for a photographer’s time. Thinking of poses on command can be difficult, resulting in awkward photos. I get so many questions about how to pose for photo shoots! So today I’m channeling my inner Tyra and sharing my favorite poses that will work with any smise or strut. Do you struggle with posing for pictures? You don’t have to be a blogger to learn how to look good in your pictures. Here’s how to pose like a fashion blogger and six poses you should try!
Sitting Pretty
Sitting poses are actually the most difficult for me, but they can be a lot of fun! Be mindful of what type of outfit you’re wearing when attempting a sitting pose. Kicking or creating movement with your legs can make the pose seem more natural and lively.
The Look Away
This pose always adds a little drama and allows the viewer to focus on what’s happening in the picture. I’m known for attempting this pose at least once during a photo shoot. Playing with a piece of jewelry or hair can add a little interest.
Laugh a Little
My husband always tells me that I need to smile more, so I make it a point to throw in a laughing picture from time to time. It’s hard to see a smile or laugh and not feel happy right? If you’re doing a fun photo shoot try to incorporate as many smiles and laughing moments as you can!
Walk it Out
This isn’t really a pose, but when executed correctly, walking it out in a picture can make a statement. I love doing this downtown in a busy city or in a shopping center to give off street style vibes. You can get fun with this during a shoot by twirling or kicking your legs out. Pro-tip: take your time with each step to give your photographer time to capture the shot (a half of a step slower than you’d normally walk).
Flirting with Flair
This is another one of my go-to poses! Playing with an article of clothing can add flair to your photos. It also shows off the piece that you’re touching (perfect for dresses and skirts). Try this pose with one of your favorite summer dresses!
It’s All in the Legs
A good leg cross goes a long way. This pose takes the number one spot when it comes to posing. It’s something about this pose that makes me feel powerful and sophisticated. I did this pose for almost all of my looks in a few seasons ago for NYFW! It’s been years and I still love it.
Like anything, posing takes practice. Shooting with a photographer that you’re comfortable with can help! Take notes from blog posts like mine, other bloggers you admire, and of course Pinterest. If you have a friend who happens to be a natural, ask them for tips! Don’t be afraid to try out your poses before hand in the mirror to see which angles you like the best.
I hope this blog post was helpful and gave you some inspiration to take with you into your next photo shoot! Trying a pose I suggested? Let me know so I can share your post. We gotta grow together right?
